What is an SSL Certificate?

If you're serious about doing business online, you need an SSL. It's the best way to protect user data and defend against identity theft. If you are accepting credit card payments online via a merchant account, the credit card associations and networks require that you use SSL whenever you transmit credit card information, such as the card number, card holder's name, expiration date, CVV code, etc. (such as when a customer enters their credit card on your shopping cart order form or payment page). This is an important part of making your website PCI compliant (a set of rules that must be followed in order to accept credit card payments).

Many customers will refuse to do business with a Web Property that doesn't have an SSL certificate. Displaying your SSL Site Seal tells customers they can shop with confidence, knowing they're protected. Different certificates provide different levels of validation.

Credibility is established by checking the digital certificate, which includes:

✓ The Certificate holder's name (individual or company).
✓ The Certificate's serial number and expiration date.
✓ A copy of the Certificate holder's "public" cryptographic key.
✓ The digital signature of the Certificate-issuing authority.
✓ Extended SSL Certificates give the site visitor an additional visual cue, displaying the Certificate holder's name against a distinctive green background in the visitor's browser.

Each of our Web Properties come with an SSL Certificate registered under the Web Property's address. Virtual Web Property Brokers ™ will register and install the certificate after the site property's modification is complete. This process can take up to two weeks, so we register the web address once the first and last month's payment is made in an effort to have the certificate ready for installation once the modification is complete. SSL CERTIFICATE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If I decide to leave after my rental or leasing term, what happens to my SSL Certificate registered with my Domain Name?

The SSL Certificate price is filtered into your Web Property Rent or Lease Payments. If you decide to leave, the SSL Certificate can be transferred to where you are going after a minimum of 6 months or 180 days of service with us. Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to keep up with yearly registrations once the SSL Certificate is transferred to your Web Property location.

How do I know if my SSL Certificate is up for a renewal?

As long as you are renting or leasing from Virtual Web Property Brokers ™, you do not have to worry about renewals. If you are not a Web Tenant of ours, you can enter your GriotSites account to access your SSL Certificate.

What happens once my SSL Certificate is up for renewal?

If you are a Web Tenant of Virtual Web Property Brokers ™, you do nothing. If you purchased an additional SSL Certificate through our Domain Central, you will receive a notification in your primary email account alerting you at least 60 days in advance.

How often must I renew my SSL Certificate?

We renew the SSL Certificates once a year. If you purchase your own, you can choose up to 5 years to renew your certificate.

Where can I locate my SSL Certificate?
SSL Certificates can be located in your GriotSites Account under "my SSL Certificates".
